The Facts About Prolotherapy Austin | Vessel Longevity + IV Bar ATX

Prolotherapy is a form of alternative medicine that focuses on repairing damaged tissues after trauma or surgery. The premise of prolotherapy is simple: traditional medical training on the contrary, teaches us to treat injuries with coldness, numbing medications and painkillers, as opposed to treating injury with antioxidants, which are actually helpful in repairing the damaged tissue and promote cell growth. The belief is that once the pain has stopped, the injury has also stopped. However, there is a growing body of evidence that prolotherapy can be very effective when it comes to dealing with sports injuries. It can be particularly successful in shoulder and neck injuries because the ligaments and tendons are relatively tight, making them particularly hard to treat with cold compresses, ice packs or other cold therapies.

The traditional methods of treating injured sporting tissues focus on the inflammatory response, injecting the injured area with an anti-inflammatory compound, anti-inflammatory steroids or other compounds that temporarily make the pain go away. The problem with this is that the injury is not fully treated, and the long term result is a loss of function and mobility in the surrounding muscles, an increase in pain from microtrauma, and an increase in the chance of repetitive trauma over the long term. By contrast, prolotherapy concentrates on improving the local anesthetic effect, targeting damaged tissues with a focus on reducing inflammation, and promoting the repair of the tissue.

Prolotherapy Austin treatments can take many forms. In a recent clinical trial, a continuous delivery of a continuous anti-inflammatory medication was shown to significantly reduce the time to healing for patients who had undertaken physical therapy following a shoulder dislocation. The injections were administered with the initial application of the anti-inflammatory medication, then followed by a local anesthetic, a cooling gel, compression and then a topical steroid.
